Herschel Pollard, Photographer ar Large
Herschel Pollard is another artist I found through his blog. The first look at his photography and I was hooked, I love it. He captures the world in both black and white and color. The rose featured here was taken with a phone camera, imagine an image this good from a phone? The colors on the photograph of a rose is incredible.
Pollard's photographs bring memories of the days long ago. I have never been to places he photographed, but it reminds me of the time long ago. That diner around the block from the house you grew up in. The wall of your school that needed to be repainted centuries ago. The church next town over...
Good use of shadows and colors always attracted my attention, Herschel Pollard combines all this with a great composition.
Herschel Pollard was saying in his blog a few days ago that photography is a very expensive art and he needs to figure out how to save money or how to make more money from it. After me telling him how awesome Red Bubble is (yes, I'm addicted to it now) he decided to join. Which meant you can buy high quality prints of his artwork and support his photographic addiction.

Clayton Kashuba's Abstract and Fantasy Art
Do you know why I love YouTube? This is why.
I mean honestly, where else would I be able to find such a great artist and see him do his artsy magic? The above video is probably amongst my favorite digital paintings done by Clayton. Now I'll be honest, I always had a thing against digital art. I feel that art done with traditional media looks more organic. After watching videos from Clayton Kashuba I'm starting to change my mind. He gives his art more depth, it looks 3 dimensional. Strangely enough I actually like his digital art more than his traditional paintings. Not to say they aren't good, it's just that his digital paintings are great. Speaking of his paintings done with paint...
I love it. Color choice is great, I always loved contrast colors being used in abstract. Composition is great as well. What can I say, I'm an abstract addict.
YouTube is a great place for artists btw, internet is a competitive place and it takes a lot for an artist to get noticed. If you want to be noticed by google, it's easier to get your video on the first page than a regular text page. There are many success stories on YouTube, why not be one of them?

Handmade Tagua Jewelry by Isabela Wood
Once a week I have a blog reading day, I sit down and spend all day reading blogs. A few weeks ago I was looking for more blogs to add to my reading list. This is when I ran into this great handmade jewelry. I personally don't wear much jewelry, but I love the craft itself. It takes taste, creativity and skill to make good quality jewelry. When I looked through this site, that's exactly what I saw. The set shown here is probably my favourite from everything she has displayed. What I like about it is the black-brown color and the way it almost looks like acorns. I'm a great lover of nature, and that's exactly what I see in this necklace.
When I went to this site today I was happy to discover that this great jewelry can now be purchased at etsy.
Jewelry is a very competitive field in arts and crafts, I'm glad to see that this store is getting due attention.

Arts N Drafts Festival
Alright, I'm finally done putting the writing of this post aside. I spent a few days helping set everything up for the festival and drawing there and had to catch up on line, now I can finally tell all about this spring Arts n Drafts. I was happy to see that almost all of the artwork displayed was new, a few paintings were displayed last fall, but there weren't many of them. The way walls were set up this time worked really well, first of all they were more stable second of all they were placed slightly different in the building. It looked almost the same, but tables were a little further from the walls allowing you to see everything better. The downside of this season's fest was the weather. Usually they have tons of artists set up outside painting, but it was too cold this year. I think I was the only one drawing there, but I was inside and they didn't have much space to fit in more artists indoors. Music was great. My favorite band (Matty B. and Dirty Pickles) were there playing on Friday woo-hoo. I got to meet a lot of interesting people there, from artists to musicians to psychic. Yes, they even had a psychic there. A great thing about Arts n Drafts is that people come over from many states to hang out there. People came for different reasons, some to drink good beer, some to hear good music, some to see art, some for all to the above, but at the end of the day many bought artwork from there. One thing I learned from displaying there is that having many small and cheap paintings is going to bring the most sales. People who came just to hang out might easily drop $20 for a painting they like.
Well, I'll be waiting for the next season (this fall), meanwhile I'll be getting back to posting everything on line.
Stay tuned for the next post about some great hand made jewelry
